We are working with LifeGate to reduce our impact
Zero Impact® is LifeGate's project for calculating, reducing, and compensating for CO2 emissions generated by the activities of individuals, entities, events and products, companies, and organisations. Through the purchase of carbon credits it helps create and protect growing forests and supports projects for energy efficiency and the production of renewable energy as outlined by the Kyoto Protocol.
OLOS is a LifeGate partner for a minimum period of 2 years and participates in the Zero Impact® project offsetting the CO2 emissions, attributable to all of its new face products’ packaging.
We have taken the following 3 steps as part of our participation in this project:
- Designing light packaging that is made from recycled and recyclable raw materials.
- Estimating the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our packaging using a scientific method based on life cycle assessment (LCA).
- Compensating for the calculated emissions by purchasing carbon credits through initiatives to create and protect growing forests in Madagascar.
For a plant to be able to absorb the most CO2 possible, it needs to be growing, meaning it must not have reached maturity yet. The growing plants that absorb the most CO2 are those that are found in tropical forests, because they enjoy a better climate compared to temperate forests.
Together with LifeGate, we have calculated the following figures concerning OLOS products:
- Total kilos of CO2 emitted by our packaging in two years: 80,628.
- Total number of trees required to compensate for the kilos of CO2 produced: 10,800 per year.
We're on the right path.

Towards a zero‑impact website
OLOS has contributed to the creation and protection of 346 sqm of growing wooded areas in the Ticino Park to offset, in 5 years, 864 kg of CO2 generated by its annual internet traffic.
We are also working to turn the OLOS website into a zero-impact platform: we will take measures to compensate for the CO2 emissions generated by each click.
